It's Villainous monologue time! Rune is giving us a heck of a lot of backstory and Pensry doesn't really seem to be willing to start a real fight just yet, but we'll see how it all pans out :D

Rune actually manages to look creepier without red eyes in the first panel… and there’s clearly a lot of family baggage to unpack there, not to mention a prophecy of the lousy kind. =_= Who the heck says stuff like that about newborn (or as yet unborn) children without adding some loopholes?
What Rune says about the rest of the family reminds me of a very uncomfortable quote:
“The living will envy the dead.”

Ooof, yeah, she’s not exactly had an easy time of it, but Rune is also definitely misplacing a lot of the blame, as far as we currently know…

oh are we victim blaming now? not doing yourself any favors lady
Laurel
well, she IS a villain 😀

Great, another prophecy. People should learn to make their own fate instead of trusting the ramblings of dubious people like Eira 😛
So they were butchered on a ruby attack and/or an intent on preventing a prophecy. So far, except the robe thing, Pensry seem like an okayish person with some rather strong and extreme opinions regarding some clothes. Now her sister does seem to like the hand she got in life. How much is sher and how much the ruby? The plot is thicking 🙂

Indeed it is! I had a very good time coming up with their backstory in particular 😀

lmao, nerds will inherit the earth!
Merchant of Pain
Prophet: If I had a coin every time someone used prophecy as an excuse to act like complete asshats, I’d sleep like a dragon every night. They’re maps to the future, not a permission slip to become murderhobos.
Oracle: People will take any excuse to be special and ride it like a tiger into prominence. Unfortunately, tigers love eating people who ride them.

It’s an unfortunate pattern, yet it happens again and again and again…
