The patreon got a Setting Lore post a few weeks back going into detail about how magic works where Khari and Saberic are from, so here's an excerpt for anyone wanting a little more insight:
Though originally thought to be a trait of the native Nimralda population, all races who call Khaburan home are occasionally born with electric blue tattoo-like markings on their face, shoulders and limbs. These markings denote those destined to be one of Khaburan’s famous Swords or Shields, the protectors of the kingdom and bulk of its military force.
Both Swords and Shields are gifted with magics similar to telekinetic projections, which are powered by the same gravitational magic that causes the floating effect of the kingdom's geography. Swords can create weapons of pure light that pierce even the toughest armors or hides, and Shields generate similar-looking barriers that can withstand almost any force. These projections are unique to the individual, who can only summon a particular shape of weapon or shield.
More will be explained as the story continues!

And the whole sword and shield makes me wonder what would happen between the shield that stops almost everything if it clashes with the sword that pierces almost everything 🙂
